Athena Hobbs praised in letter from UT Austin

Athena Hobbs received the following letter from the University of Texas at Austin. She is the daughter of Dr. Cherie Nazzal Hobbs and the late Lee Hobbs.

The letter states:

“Athena Lee Val Hobbs, 2005 Gilmer High School valedictorian, was selected to play tuba during her sophomore year for the University of Texas Longhorn Marching Band. She played baritone during her freshman year and was the Freshman Band Representative. She had the opportunity to attend the National Championship Rose Bowl game in California.

“As a result of her scholastic performance during the Fall 2005 semester, Athena earned the designation Ampla Cum Laude on the Dean’s Honor List, with 57 grade points and a 3.80 grade point average. After the Spring 2006 semester, she received the designation Cum Laude on the Dean’s Honor List, with 54 additional grade points and a 3.75 grade point average.

“During the Fall of 2006, Athena achieved a 4.0 grade point average, while studying subjects such as Organic Chemistry, Genetics, Band, Philosophy, Logic, and other honors classes.

“She was awarded the designation Cum Laude Ampla et Magna on the Dean’s Honor List, with 66 grade points. Athena has been accepted into the Plan II Honors Program and plans to study medicine.”
